Welcome

You may be wondering
Is counselling right for me ?

Hi, I’m Laura. I’m a humanistic, integrative counsellor, which means my approach is to be led by your journey towards self-discovery using whichever counselling methods best suit your needs. I work with individuals and couples, face to face or online.

Person-centred therapy is the backbone of my work, but I can also integrate cognitive behavioural therapy and solution-focused therapy into sessions where required, if they help you reach your goals.

My top priority is for you to better understand your thoughts and feelings and live a happier, more fulfilling life. I will ensure we work with the best tools available so you get the most out of your therapy journey.

It can be difficult to know which way to turn when considering working with a therapist.

The most important part to any therapeutic working relationship is to create and build a trusting and equal relationship between myself and my client. From building this foundation, I have experienced clients feel safe, they feel able to voice their thoughts and feelings that they may have not been able to say to others and at times, even to themselves.

If this sounds familiar to you, counselling help’s by offering a space solely dedicated for you to speak freely to an impartial person and helping to gain an understanding of the ‘why’ behind everything.

I work with clients who bring a range of issues; including trauma, relationship difficulties, anxiety, abuse low self esteem and neurodiversity.

Having completed further training in trauma-informed care, I am committed to providing a safe and effective therapeutic space. I believe in working at your pace, prioritising your safety, and ensuring we avoid re-traumatisation as we process trauma together.

My therapy room provides a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a none judgmental environment.

Couples Therapy

Relationship issues are one of the most common causes of emotional distress – and often the reason people seek help. Working with myself, we can explore and achieve a solid understanding of why difficulties have arisen, and how we can navigate this together.

As a couple, you can enter a neutral space to tackle relationship challenges and build a stronger connection. When communication gets tough or you feel stuck in old patterns, the goal is to help you both gain deep understanding and make positive changes together.

I offer a free initial meeting, these usually last around 15 minutes. This will take place either over the phone or online and gives us the opportunity to get to know each other a little and discuss your needs and most importantly to ensure you feel I'm the right therapist for you

My main practice is close to the university of York, I also work weekly in Market Weighton (Thursday)
