Counselling Services York

Hello
Hi, I'm Laura the face behind Laura Winteringham counselling and Innovation Counselling that I run with my friend and colleague, we are based at the Innovation Centre at the University of York.
As a counsellor, I am here to help you navigate through life's challenges. Whatever challenges or issues you are facing, I am here to provide a safe and supportive space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings. Together, we can work towards finding solutions and achieving your goals.
The most important start to any therapeutic working relationship is to create and build a trusting and equal relationship between myself and my client. From building this foundation, I have experienced clients feel understood and safe, they feel able to voice their thoughts and feelings they may have not been able to say to others and at times even to themselves.
Do you feel like you’re at a crossroads?
Is it difficult to talk to family or friends about how you are feeling?
Are you feeling like you need some extra support?

If this sounds familiar to you, my therapy room provides a safe space for you to explore your thoughts and feelings in a none judgmental environment. By offering a space solely dedicated for you to speak freely to an impartial person and helping to gain an understanding of the ‘why’ behind everything, whilst knowing it is a confidential and none judgmental and safe.
Counselling work's with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, stress, relationships, family dynamics, health issues and much more.
Mental health and resilience can be difficult to maintain, any form of life stressors can all have a profound and varying effect not only on our mental but physical health as well.
I’ve worked with clients who have brought a whole range of issues; including anxiety and depression, relationship difficulties, trauma, abuse and bereavement.
My Story
I worked for many years as a Sports Therapist.
Throughout my work, I recognised that mental health was becoming a more integral part of my practice, I found myself developing a deep interest in mental health and the effects it can have on an person, not just mentally, but also the physical impact it has on individuals.
Finding myself at a point that steered me to re-evaluate my life, it was these difficulties and life experiences that inspired me to commence my own journey to become a therapeutic counsellor. Throughout my training journey and personal therapy, I felt a new lease of life and gained skills that now support my work with my clients.
When an individual reaches out to ask for support, that's exactly what I provide, a supportive safe space for you to explore your feelings and emotions.
Although Person-centered therapy is my core modality, I take an integrative approach in my work, this is to ensure that each individual receives the best possible outcome through our work together, I do this with Solution focused brief therapy and CBT .
Fast forward a few years, Innovation Counselling was born.
Working together with another therapist, we offer the best fit for each individual client, through our individual areas and expertise.
I am committed to providing compassionate and professional care to all my clients.
I am a proud member of both the BACP, the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, and the NCPS, the National Counselling and Psychotherapy society, this means the training I have taken is robust and to the highest of
